Cold brew tonics are making a fizzy splash. They’re like the sophisticated, modern version of the old-fashioned soda fountain drink. But instead of the egg cream’s milk and chocolate syrup, this cold brew tonic recipe features smooth, bold coffee and orange cardamom simple syrup. Learn how to make this recipe using Starbucks® Cold Brew Coffee Pitcher Packs.

Make cold brew by pouring filtered water over two Starbucks® Cold Brew Coffee Pitcher Packs.

Let steep for 24 hours.

Remove Pitcher Packs and add water.

Make the orange cardamom simple syrup by combining water, juice, sugar, cardamom and orange zest in saucepan.

Bring to a boil to dissolve sugar, then let cool.

Strain out cardamom and orange zest.

To make the cold brew tonic, fill a tall glass with ice.

Pour in simple syrup, then add cold brew and tonic water.

Stir and garnish with an orange slice.

Serve and enjoy.

Ingredients For Cold Brew Orange Tonic Recipe
    Serves 1
  • ½ cup Starbucks® Cold Brew (recipe below)
  • ½ cup tonic water
  • 1 tablespoon Orange Cardamom Simple Syrup (recipe below)
  • Orange slice for garnish
For Cold Brew
    Makes 6 cups, enough for 12 cold brew tonics
  • 2 Starbucks Cold Brew Coffee Pitcher Packs
  • 7 cups cold, filtered water
For Orange Cardamom Simple Syrup
    Makes ½ cup, enough for 8 cold brew tonics
  • ¼ cup orange juice
  • ¼ cup water
  • ½ cup sugar
  • 1 tablespoon crushed cardamom
  • Zest of 1 small orange
Directions Make Cold Brew
Place 2 Pitcher Packs in a pitcher. Pour 4 cups of filtered water over the Pitcher Packs. Steep the brew in the refrigerator, covered, for 24 hours. Remove and discard the Pitcher Packs. Add 3 cups of filtered water to pitcher. Enjoy cold brew in your favorite recipe.

Make Orange Cardamom Simple Syrup
Combine all ingredients in a small saucepan. Bring to a boil, stirring until sugar has dissolved. Strain out the orange zest and cardamom. Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator until ready to use.

Make Cold Brew Orange Tonic
Fill a tall glass with ice. Pour in the tonic water, then the cold brew and simple syrup (adding tonic last can cause an overflow). Give the drink a quick stir and garnish it with a slice of orange. Serve and enjoy.
